Communicare is a fully integrated electronic health and practice management system. It is designed for use in community health, making it ideal for health and social services where the primary concerns are the health of the individual, as well as the community as a whole.

Communicare has been supporting the holistic-care model for Aboriginal and Torres Strait health since 1994. It is currently Australia's leading health software in Indigenous and remote populations.

Communicare’s comprehensive patient record allows easy access for providers to promptly review clinical information and manage a patient’s holistic care.

The record is arranged into distinct segments ensuring information and medications are simple to locate, the ICPC2+ dataset is integrated to ensure the integrity of the data is of an international standard. Outstanding recalls, reminders and referrals are easily accessible from both the record and the reports library.  


Keeping track of booked appointments and walk-ins can be a challenge, particularly in rural health facilities. Communicare’s separate appointment book and service recording modules enables users to book providers, patients and rooms in advance while keeping track of real time walk-ins and appointment attendances.  Appointments can be maintained and updated with Communicare’s ‘drag and drop’ interface, and the free appointment search tool facilitates finding the best availability. A selection of reports to collect statistics and identify trends is included.



Stay up to date with patient and staff movements with Communicare’s transport modules. Transport can be booked manually for individual patients, or automatically when an appointment is booked.
To accommodate health services who provide transport on a larger scale, a consolidated data collection method is available.
Daily task sheets can be automatically sent to transport drivers on a daily basis, while the statistics are effortlessly collected.


Private Billing

The Private Billing module allows for the billing of individuals and/or organisations where an invoice or an account can be provided and payment(s) made. Multiple fee structures allow for additional fee amounts set by the Billing Type which can be manually configured or adjusting the imported MBS fee schedule.

Send a message to an individual patient, or batch an SMS to an entire group using Communicare’s integrated SMS solution. Selection criteria and message content are able to be customised for purpose, and statistics can be collected on messages sent and their progress.

Communicare comes preloaded with many commonly used document templates, including medical certificates, referral letters, care plans and Medicare and worker’s compensation forms.
Templates can be modified, or you can create your own custom templates with Communicare’s integrated template editor, with an option to select from over 100 auto-populating fields. 


Pathology / Radiology

Send and receive investigations with ease
Pathology and Radiology requests are generated within a patient’s record, with many investigation request templates readily available. Results and radiology reports can then be received electronically, and measurements extracted automatically once reviewed.
Communicare interfaces with all pathology software capable of sending common result formats, including HL7, PDF and PIT files. The advanced recall and reporting system facilitates patient follow-up to ensure no patient is missed.

Medicare Claiming

Simplify your claiming, catch up on lost revenue
Managing Medicare claims effectively is essential to a health service’s operation and maintenance.  Communicare’s claiming modules modernises the process, with the ability to bulk bill, privately bill and submit immunisation records to the ACIR electronically. Specialised reports can be pulled on demand or scheduled automatically to track income, statistics and highlight potential revenue.


My Health Record (formally PCeHR)

Communicare takes pride in remaining at the forefront of integrated ehealth solutions, and was one of the first to obtain compliance from NeHTA for the Personally Controlled eHealth Record (PCeHR). 
Registered providers can access My Health Record from the clinical record to upload patient event and shared health summaries to a central location, efficiently and securely. The Health Record can be viewed and updated through Communicare’s interface, providers are also able to upload information directly to the National Prescribing and Dispense Repository (NPDR).

Secure Messaging

Communicare directly integrates with Argus, a widely used secure messaging program, to send and receive referrals, discharge summaries, and other patient information efficiently yet securely. Switch to secure messaging, and eliminate the need for fax machines and arduous document scanning. High level encryption ensures documents are safe until Communicare receives notification they have been delivered. 

Electronic Prescriptions

eRx is Australia’s first and largest nation-wide Prescription Exchange Service. Electronic Transfer of Prescriptions (ETP) consists of the safe and secure transmission of prescription and dispensing data between authorised doctors and the pharmacists. ETP contributes to an improved use of medicines and a reduction of the number of adverse medication events. eRx integrates with Communicare by printing a barcode on all prescriptions, allowing the pharmacy to collect the prescription information quickly and securely.
